In the middle of 2022, five sets of Uniroc's face drill rig WD561  were sent to Luoyang, Henan Province one after another to help Zijin Mining Group Luoyang Kunyu Mining Co. in the small section roadway development project. After two years, Uniroc made a return visit to the use of these equipments.


In Luoyang Kunyu Mining Co., Ltd. dry tree mine section 470, we saw the operator master Wang skilfully manipulated the remote control, in this small section of only 6 square feet, the five new ‘small WD561’ flexible ‘interspersed’, just more than 2 hours to finish the job. The work was finished in just over two hours. Master Wang said: ‘The traditional manual method requires two guns and at least four hours of work to complete the same job. Since using the five new rock drilling dollies, the efficiency has increased dramatically, especially as the work is easier.’ Master Wang was originally an experienced hand drill operator, and was quite impressed by the change from equipment to manual labour.



From resistance to acceptance

Recalling the time when the mine just promoted mechanised construction, Wang Chuanhua, the project manager of Henan Sanyi Mining Company's Ganshu Mining Area, was deeply touched, and Manager Wang said, ‘In the middle of 2022, when the mine's leaders had just introduced the five new rock drilling dolly, the workers were very resistant to it, and their emotions were relatively big. On the one hand, by the equipment instead of manual labour, the workers have a transformation process in the concept; in addition, the requirements for the construction organisation have become higher, and the requirements for the management personnel are also a test. With the improvement of mechanised efficiency and the reduction of safety risks, the workers gradually changed from resistance to acceptance, and now rely on these equipments, this painful period lasted about half a year.’


Addressing the shortage of operational personnel

At that time, a prominent problem was the lack of good operators in the mine. Although operators were hired from outside, their lack of responsibility and untimely maintenance of the equipment led to frequent breakdowns. In order to solve this problem, the mine decided to train its own master operators. With the strong support of five new equipment, Sanyi Mining Company specially arranged nine operators to go to Changsha for free training. After the systematic training of five new equipment, these operator masters are now fully capable of being on their own. As they are trained by themselves, they have a stronger sense of responsibility and a higher degree of care for the equipment, which greatly reduces the equipment failure rate and also reduces the cost. At present, San Yi Mining Company dry tree mine has basically solved the problem of lack of operating master talent.


Remote Control Operation ‘Bend the Road’

For the training of master operators, Wu Luomin, the deputy project manager of Shanggong mine, took another approach. Shanggong mine used two sets of five new equipment rock drilling trolley, Wu manager in the face of the same problem, decided to personally learn to operate, in the five new equipment after-sales service engineers under the guidance of the guidance of the side he touched the work, learning by doing. Now Manager Wu is not only familiar with the operation of Wuxin equipment, but also cultivated a number of ‘apprentices’, and even personally mobilised his brother, who also plays the wind drill in the mine, to learn how to operate the rock drilling trolley.


Talking about why so fast to get started, Wu manager of the five new equipment of the remote control operating system is highly respected, the entire remote control only 3 buttons, greatly simplifying the operation process, making the speed of getting started very quickly. In addition, the remote control operation also solves the problem of the blind spot of the field of vision when sitting in the cab, thus improving the moulding effect.



Once the talent problem is solved, what about the service capability?

As early as mid-2022, when the equipment was just stationed in the mine, Wuxin's after-sales service team was stationed at the project site 24 hours a day, paying real-time attention to the construction situation to ensure timely and efficient after-sales service. In order to ensure the continuous and stable operation of the equipment, even in the case of no equipment failure, Wuxin equipment service engineers go down the shaft no less than two times a week, so that small problems are solved in advance, to ensure the good operation of the equipment. When it comes to the after-sales service of Wuxin equipment, the two managers are full of praise.


In response to the general response to the use of rock drilling trucks compared to the high cost of labour, Manager Wang said: the core advantage of mechanised construction is to significantly reduce the safety risk. In the past, drilling manually posed a great safety risk, as roofing and gang slipping were the norm, and once an accident occurred, it was difficult to guarantee the safety of the workers, and in the long run, the use of rock drilling trolleys definitely saves money.



At present, the large section construction of domestic underground mines has been generally mechanised, however, in the small and medium-sized section mechanised construction, many manufacturers are reluctant to invest too much due to the systematic project involving the cultivation of operating personnel, the establishment of the parts supply system and the service capability.
